A CSA box full of delicious fruits and veggies!

One of the best things about my CSA box coming every two weeks is that the amount is perfect to get me through exactly two weeks!  I typically leave the vegetable items home for dinners, and I take the fruits to work to eat with lunch.  I got lucky in finding the perfect sized box on my first try, and it’s an important quality to note…..too much food and I’d end up wasting a lot; too little and I’d feel stretched over the two weeks.  If you’re not happy with the size of your CSA box don’t get discouraged, I’m sure your farm has other options!

I was pleasantly surprised this week to find that I knew every item in my CSA box!  That was a first….although, as I anticipated last time, I did get some more carrots in a completely different size than the last two boxes.  Who knew all of these varieties existed??

My favorite item in the box is bulb fennel; I’ve never had it!  I’m excited to try a new recipe with it, supposedly it’s highly aromatic and flavorful….yummy.  Any recommendations??

Here are my fun contents in this box:

1 lb assorted tomatoes
1 lb assorted potatoes
4 valencia oranges (perfect for juicing!)
3 hass avocados (a bit firm, but they’re ripening slowly)
1 summer squash
1 bulb fennel
1 bunched carrot
1 bunched collard
Assorted chard
1 head of leaf lettuce

Do you have any fun recipes to share with these new fruits and veggies I received?  Feel free to share!

Well, use the fronds to make pesto. Then slice the bulb into half inch slices or cut in wedges. Preheat your oven to 400. Toss with salt and pepper and olive oil and put in for 30 – 40 minutes. I also toss in cauliflower and kalamata olives. Let me know if you do it.
